About Me

My Journey in Tech

I’m a graduate of the HyperionDev Full Stack Developer Bootcamp, where I honed my skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Express, and MongoDB among others. My journey into coding stems from a lifelong curiosity about how things work and a love for problem-solving. Combined with my strong background in Science and Education, I've developed a unique ability to break down complex ideas and build intuitive, user-friendly solutions.

Upon completion of my bootcamp, I received an average grade of 100%. I finished first of a cohort of over 170, and was thrilled when my mentor suggested my final capstone project was a useful and interesting education app that he wasn't aware there was a need for. I was really proud that I could create something with real-world application and sparked an interest in what else I could do! I have recently been approached by some local SMEs to build websites, so have been freelancing, and have been thrilled to help these clients with their goals. One client also needed content creation for their social media, and I assisted them with that, so it was another branch of creativity I dipped my toes into. It's been difficult doing everthing from scratch by myself, so I am excited to join a team, and learn more!

My Teaching Career

Before diving into the tech world, I spent several years as a Science and Mathematics teacher, which was as challenging as it was rewarding. I wasn’t just a teacher; I wore many hats. I coordinated the Duke of Edinburgh program, helping students develop skills beyond the classroom, and ran a weekly Musical Theatre Club where creativity took center stage. As Turing House Leader, I organized assemblies, created engaging presentations and video content, and ran exciting school-wide events. I also mentored new teachers and supervised PGCE students, offering lesson observations and support. During my stint as the interim Assistant Head of Science, I helped support teachers, organized materials for Pupil Premium students, carried out performance reviews, and tracked student progress.

Outside the Code

When I’m not coding, I’m diving into my many hobbies. I love embroidery, playing guitar, weight training, and singing—especially when it’s with a choir. I’ve sung with four different choirs and even served as president of one, and was lucky enough to be in an 11-piece funk band - Groovy I know! I love musicals, dance, and stand-up comedy. Whether it’s snowboarding, playing golf, or exploring new destinations, I’m always on the lookout for my next adventure. Food? Absolutely. I’ll try (almost) anything once, especially if it’s paired with a good story.
